I have an LT25 and am looking to do the same thing. If you look on youtube under "12 volt log turner" there is a guy on there who did it on an LT30 and I think his is only a 2000 lb winch. his only shows turning a log, but I would have to think that using the pulleys it would increase the capacity and the fact that you are rolling the log and not lifting it.

we have an lt 25  and we originally had  a 2500 or 3000 pound on it to load logs  but it  blew up  trying something we shouldnt have  so  we put a 5000  on it and it works great  , plenty of power  pulling logs  up the ramps  , we dont use it for log turning  so i dont know about that   ,,  thats my 2 cents worth  go with the 5000 pound you wont be sorry,,,

i've got a 4500 i'm looking at do you think that would be enough

A lot will depend on the brand of winch you get also.
I do not know winches .....but this is my input.
I have a guy that has gone through 6 winches from Harbor Freight. For each one he broke, they took it back and exchanged it for him. He finally got the 10,000 pound. Its holding up pretty good on 3500 pound logs.
But still....this takes lots of time swapping these winches out on his trailer.
The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

I use a 2500 lbs winch to load.  I've rolled some pretty big (edit by admin....ummmm, we probably need to call that something else for the kids who read here) with no trouble (5000lbs).

There was a guy at work that would buy starters from VIP. They might only last a year, but they was guaranteed for the life of the car. He thought he was a getting a great deal.

prolly be a little overkill but bigger is always better in most cases I got a 2000lb on my lt 28 it works great just a little slow if a more powerfull winch is faster I wud go with it if not save your money a 2000 or 2500 it plenty big to turn logs even 20ft ones but I do not load mine with winch I use a tractor it sure beats the hand crank that's for sure!! ;D

I got a 2000 but every time I try to decide where to mount it, I give up and keep cranking the manual.  Right now the 2000 is behind the seat of the truck.

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing in my book. I would probably lean toward getting one slightly larger than you think you need. 4500-5000 is probably more than you need but would make me feel good. I use an 8000lb Warne on my trailer and it will pull 36" x 10' logs up a ramp on to the trailer with no problem (dragging not rolling).

just go ahead with the big one then cant go wrong I mounted mine to the plate the manual one was on I think I had to drill a couple new holes pretty simple.i really don't know why woodmizer doesn't offer one as an option.

That 3700 Warn will get it done. That is the one on my LT30 in this
short video. I've had it for about 7 years and it has held up well.
One of the best winches I have. I've used it for pulling logs also.

Did the same on my LT28 before adding hydraulics. For your hobby work a Harbor Frieght 2500-3500 lb. should suffice. The remote is very handy, just keep it clipped to the keychain so it sicks around.

I just came from a new Harbor Freight and they were selling their 2500# winch with wireless remote for $69.  I don't know how they do this but the reviews on their winches are good.
84 LT30 and lots of Stihl saws.

Is that the one in Auburn? I've been going there. getting something free everytime I go. They seem to have a free coupon each week. They are good for more than a month,so I cut them out and hang on to them.

I had a 3500 on my LT28 and it worked quite well.  It was fast and powerful but hard on the battery.  I saw a 4500 Warn on sale at Napa.  I installed it and found it to be very powerful but a little slower and easy on the battery charge.  I took the original cable off and put on a small one and cut it to length so that it operates with a single wrap on the drum.  I find that is where the max mechanical advantage is obtained.  I use my John Deere to load  logs so I never tried winching on the saw bed.  By the way my saw is from Skowhegan; bought it a year ago this month and brought it to Canada (NB).

peterob

i don't live to far from skowhegan, thanks for the info
