Yesterday I noticed after being home for a bit that the park lights on my truck were staying on.  Usually if I leave a light on it will automatically go off after a bit.  This time they did not.  I checked the switch and it is still set to auto.  Had to unhook the batteries last night to get the lights to go out.  When I hooked up the batteries this morning the lights came back on.  Any suggestions?  The truck in a 05 Chev 2500.

Ken,
Mine is in the shop for the same thing,  Seems the fuse block under the hood fried itself.  almost $400 to replace.  Mine is an 08 2500HD Duramax. not covered by warranty

Then there is the relay box for the Integrated Brake controller that has been messed up for most of the trucks life.  That was another $185.  not covered by warranty

Good luck.

My wife's Expedition has a mind of it's own sometimes with the interior lights. When it is going thru one of these spells, I turn the dash dimmer/interior lights switch to the "OFF" position to fix that vehicle's issue. That one has me at a loss for several years. It will start having this problem at random times, usually at least twice a year. I've blown out all the door switches, opened/closed all the doors repeatedly, checked fuses, etc. with no luck. :-\

You sure it's the park lights , mine does it to but it's the brake lights , but not the hi light . All the rest of the lights go out per the timer but the brake light stays on . pump the pedal a couple of times and they go out .Thought it was weird that the hi light goes out but not the rest of them . 2001 s10 pick up .Talking to the dealership guys , sounds like it's common but symptoms  point to the abs maybe ? Best guess 5-600 to diagnose and maybe fix it . pfffft

Question - do you have an electric brake controller on/added to your truck? I have had experience with these units causing similar problem - fix was a short in blue brake wire under rear bumper going to trailer plug.

I had a Jeep that did that randomly. It ended up being corrosion in the trailer light plug socket. It had not been used in many years apparently by the way it looked and had shorted out. If you don't use your vehicle for towing I'd look over the wiring for damage.

Thanks for the replies.  Last night I took out the fuses and the problem was solved.  The truck needs to go into a shop for a bunch of other projects so it will be fixed then.  I've been shopping for a new to me truck and that chore has just moved further up the "to do" page.

On the newer trucks, the trailer wiring is isolated from the truck wiring in such a way that a short in the trailer wiring cannot turn on the truck lights.  At least in my 2008 GMC they cannot,  I have the Integrated trailer brake controller too.
