Husky 268(XP?)

Hi All,

I just bought a used Husky 268, I believe it's an XP, at least it has the XP sticker on it.  It needs a few repairs, namely the  chain brake is missing, so I'm looking for parts for it.

It runs good, starts easily, and since the guy was only asking $75 for it, I couldn't pass it up.

My question is, what size bar can I run on this thing?  It only has a 16" bar on it, and I'd like to go to at least a 24" or bigger.  It will be used for felling and cross cuts on larger mesquites, oaks, and pecan trees, usually up to 30" diameter.  I seldom rip logs, so that's not really a concern.

Also, I currently have a 359 with a 20" bar that I use to do both felling and limbing.  I'm considering putting a 16" bar on it to do the limbing, seems it would make it a little less cumbersome.

I'd put a 24" on the 268XP and an 18" on the 359. Just my preference and sized to the type of wood I cut. A 16" will be fine on the 359.

That 268 should handle the 24" bar as long as you keep a good sharp chain on it.
That 359 with the 16" would be a little powerhouse.

The 268 was made between ´87 and ´01.
What year is yours? (two first digits of the serial#) I´ll need it to get back to you with the part number for the chainbrake.
