Welcome.

If I may ask, what brings you here?

adaras

I was logging in greece for an outfit for 10 years and when things went down the drain i moved into canada(AB), for a new start, i heard about the forum and i couldnt resist, besides we all loggers belong to one family no matter the country! Lol

chevytaHOE5674

Nice to have you. Are going going to be logging in AB as well or are you trying something new?

Tell us about the operation in Greece as I'm guessing it is a bit different than how things are done on this side of the pond.

adaras

well I was thinking to keep logging here too but the safety tickets are expensive for logging, so I am looking to go on an oilpatch work, back home when I started my boss first word was "dont cut your self cause I cant take you to the hospital" lol we were cutting oak, chestnut, maple, elm and lot others, the only machine that we use to howl the trees out was an old Belarus tractor for the ones that were going to the mill otherwise the firewood was moving with mules, the terrain was difficult cause Greece is mostly  steep mountains, lots lots of labour and the pay was 25euro a day, we even had an old vertical mill powered by water and the wagons were driven with chain and a steering wheel or by hand. One guy war holding the lever that was engaging the mill and one or tow were pushing the wagon on rails and rolling the logs on it, the biggest square beams we made were 1mx1mx10m, memories I will never forget and all this hard labour made us family, but now its different there, and here its all machinery, I still cut and split for my self for the stove about 20 tons for the winter
