Some of my fixes, crude but effective

These are some of my fixes that I have adapted over the years. Hope they are useful for you too.

Fix #1. Stihl T27 screwdrivers are not exactly cheap. Earlier when the tip broke of or snapped off I used to reluctantly throw it away, till I found it could be reshaped using a small resin wheel.

Fix #2.Stripped body threads happen all the time on the Mag-Al bodies. I found it easier to convert oversized screws into self-tapping types by shaping the next larger sized screws(eg M6 instead of M5) like this. It takes only a couple of minutes to make and use these oversize screws. They are best in the field in case you have a stripped thread on a critical spot.

Fix #3. There is a thread running on the topic of fitting oil seals without damaging them. The inner lips are what get damaged usually. A suitable strip of film eases the seal onto the shaft.

Thanks for the picture of the seal+film trick. I was wondering how that went. Couldn't quite picture it, now I get it  ;D

Thanks Joe, I always read your posts and have learned a great deal. Its one thing to have "factory" tools and a lot of money to repair saws quite another to do it with few parts and little but your skill. Frank C.
