Hey Y'all,
I'm planning to attach a series of 4x10 rafters at 3:12 pitch to a vertical 4x10 ledger board and I'm wondering what kind of joint to use at the interface.

A blind partial dovetail is an option albeit a bit advanced for my skill-level.  I plan to fasten with pocket-hole timber screws.

Something simple cut with a router is what I'm thinking.  Suggestions would be appreciated.  Happy New Year!

It depends, is the ledger acting as a beam spanning some distance between supports and carrying substantial roof load or is it more continuously supported and acting simply as an attachment point? A sketch of what is going on would help.

Tried some norwegian style porch posts for this project.
