Both HP and torque fall off fast when running faster than the peak HP RPM on a stock saw, your just making noise when running  faster.  Ported saws will make peak HP at a little higher RPM, most port for more  torque not a finicky high RPM that is best left for race saws.   Steve

I use both methods ear and my Stihl tach. Once you get the saw running sweet put the tach on it and write the RPM's on the shop wall. Most folks that badmouth tachs are too cheap to buy a good one. Frank C.
