Ok so after about 8 hours on the new lucas (new to me) here are the only problems that I am having so far. I am not getting more than 2200 rpms, is that wright or should it be higher than that? Also when the emergency brake is hit the blade never really stops, should it come to a complete stop.

I do not know the specs on your 8-30, but my 10-30 run well above 3000 and yes when my throttle is pushed in or idled, the brake gets applied and the blade completely stops. Mine has a very simple adjustment near the carb.

Sounds like your vernier throttle cable is out of whack and needs to be adjusted.

BC, I noticed the same thing on my used 830 (only after many more hours of use than when you picked up on it :-[) and I nearly said something when you posted this picture.

As near as I can tell that E-brake mechanism should be pulled out, I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.  When you pull it out you can see the brake pad lift off the centrifugal (the manuals words not mine ;D), once I did that my rpms went from about 2600 to 3300.  I have a feeling it was run that way from the start. :-\   For right now I'm being a big dummy and running without an E-brake as I believe the pad is worn past the point of usefulness/effectiveness.  A mechanic I am not. :(

Bonecrusher, she should be running around 3,500-3,600 rpm as measured by your hour meter.

As John mentioned, check your brake setup to get full revs. Also check the pad against the clucth at the rearof the engine, it may be too worn to bring the blade to a full stop on idle.

Let us know how you go...
