I`ve been trying to fit a 30" bar onto my 064 but the standard 8 tooth rim sprocket makes it too tight to fit so ive taken a 7 tooth rim sprocket from an old 036 which then allows the bar to fit.
Although it fits OK is a 064 designed to run with a smaller 7 tooth sprocket??
Hope thats not a stupid question, thanks in advance

I run a 7 tooth sprocket on my 066 for my 3/8 pitch 20 inch bar and my .404 36 inch bar and it works well a 7 tooth will pull better in big wood or at least it does for me a 8 tooth will cut faster in little wood. I think a 7 tooth works well. Have fun cutting the 064 and 066 are big and dangerous tools.

Are you sure you have the proper bar mount on that bar Spenc?

I also still have the .404 bar and sprocket that came on the saw if the need arises.

The bar is a stihl rollomatic ES 3/8 pitch which does fit fine with a 7 tooth rim sprocket.
Stihl make no mention of having to change the sprocket for this bar in their catalogue (they may do in their manual -which I dont have) but as long as some of you guys have been running on the same setup I`m happy :)
Thanks
Spencer.

Just add a link or two in the chain to pull the bar away from the rim.
