A couple of questions ...

Actually I found Busy Beaver Lumbers thread about this and answered pretty much all of my questions.  Ask and ye shall receive, eh?

When we camped a lot I did not care if it was soft wood or hard wood. Free was the key word. I used to be able to get as much yellow pine as I could for free. Some stringer scraps were up to 4' long. They had to be discarded because of long splits on the ends.

Though free was not motivation enough to burn it in my fire place. When ever I bought fire wood I always bought hard wood. Even if it was going into a camp fire.
