I recently bought an '06 Ford F250 pickup, long story but had a brand new 5.4 long block, wrong oil pan for a super duty, got that fixed under warrantee but have been having trouble with water in the coils multiple times now.  I've never power washed the engine (brand new) and don't go mudding or anything but it is my daily driver, rain and mud, has been pretty constant lately, but the engine is clean as a whistle.  Not trying to start any Ford/Chevy/Dodge wars with this just wondering if someone knows how to keep moisture out of the coils.  I was in a pinch when I bought it and it fit the bill at the time but this is getting aggravating thinking I can only drive it when the sunshines  :-\.

I have a 05 F350 5.4 since new and never had problems with the coils. I had a new 1999 F250 5.4 that had a coil that got wet when it rained and would shut the cylinder down. That one had a secret recall that replaced the coil on that cylinder and fixed the hood gasket under warranty which solved the problem. You may want to check the hood gasket across the rear for leakage.

Thanks 21incher, I'll check it, not sure where it's coming from.

The only time I had problems with the coils on my 5.4 was when the spark plugs shoot out of the head tearing the coil loose from it's mount.

We just turned over 175,000 on our 2003 Expedition with a 5.4L. We have changed out 5 coils in the past 16 months.

I hope no more, as it's something I can't afford. One of those had to be changed twice. >:(

my 5.4 blew plugs and ripped the coils out with them. my motor was junk at 135,000 miles. replaced either 6 or 7 coils , replaced the wiring harness in the steering wheel twice , dome lights came on under 15 mph (took the bulbs out) fixed the 4 wheel drive 6 times, replaced upper and lower king pins and bushings twice. i think other than that it was a good truck :) she would pull her guts out.
you would think i would switch brands right? no such luck  me strong like ox smart like tractor :D :D
what ever money you save buying a ford, you'll spend  that repairing them and more.

:D :D :D  I'm not really partial to any brand, had enough stress with all of them in one shape or form,  this is the newest I've ever owned so just wondering if it was a common problem and if there's a cure for it. (btw it does pull good when hitting on all eight  ;))

I used to spray WD 40 on distributor cap and wires that use to work.

Sorry to bump this, does anyone know any good Ford websites that I might try?  Found one today that really didn't have what I was looking for (at least not that I could find) but was a testament to how well this sight is run and designed.  Still having issues, gave up and ordered my own analyzer today  :-\.  It's been really wet lately but I don't think moisture is the problem anymore.
