My  TJ 230H I believe is a 1965 or 1969. My Detroit 353 is 1969 in it so possibly a 1969 skidder.
It has the Hydraulic Tank in the cab beside the operators seat. I read on previous threads that the hydraulic oil filter is inside this tank?? Does anyone know this for a fact and if so would you have a make and part# for a replacement filter?  Thanks very much!

I know on the newer models with the tank under the rad the filter is in the tank. I can't help you on the ones in the cab

To help us get this right, can you pull the grill off and make sure there is no hydraulic tank there. If not and it is a '65 with the side tank factory (so someone hasn't added the side tank), I will see what my books say, although I think I have a gap between the 200, 201 and the C series for parts books.

Here is a schematic of the tank arangement. I don't have dimensions or a part #.

Hopefully the filter is down in the oil. Manual states to drain tank to get to filter.

I had the front grill off and didn't notice anything but the rad!  I'm in the process of changing all the fluids and when pushing the blade down it won't lift the front end of the skidder up. There is a lot of downward force but not enough to lift the skidder. I'm going to put a piece of wood under the blade and try that just in case the rams are fully extended. If it still won't lift the skidder then I'll check that filter out. Hey maybe my hydraulic system was not made to lift it......or maybe my hydraulic pump is on its last legs?  Let me know what you think. I really appreciate the diagram, it's bang on!!!   Thanks again!  Moose

Heres some pictures, one of the hydraulic tank and a couple of the hydraulic pump in the front of the rad. I don't believe there was ever a tank in the front.  Im wondering if this is the original hydraulic pump... Looks small so perhaps it cant create enough pressure to push the blade down to lift the front end. Let me know what you think?

The pumps on those aren't very big I'd say its the correct size looked similar to the pump on my 225 have you tried putting a chunk under the blade those blades don't go down real far anyway. I agree that it never had a front tank as it looks different than the ones I have been around neilo would know better than me tho

This seemed to go off track a bit and I am kind of unsure what you need. As said photos show no chin tank so I believe it is a mid 1965 machine with the side tank. By the way, it has Cessna hydraulics rather than the Huffco system also used around that time. The Cessna stuff is much more common in the TJ.

If you are changing fluids, I would try and work out if there is a filter in your tank, or if it is missing. If there is one there, take it out and measure it. You should be able to buy a filter on its dimensions.

The blade rams were increased in size through time, and I am not sure yours will lift the front. My 230D does at revs, but not idle. The steer and blade should have about 2000psi if you want to measure it. I am not sure lifting the front end is a test of adequate hydraulic system and if it is,there could be issues other than the pump. Like the relief valve.

No problems....... i did get a bit off track.  Everything seems to work fine with the hydraulics.  I'll dig that filter out and see what kind of shape its in.  As fir the blade lifting the front end, i thought I read that in one if the posts as a way to test the system. Thanks for clearing that up for me!!
