I see that the last thing you do is cut your stickers to length. Guys, i guess that i go around the world backwards, as my dad used to tell me because i'm left handed. That's the first thing i do, cut the log to the sticker length. With the slabs removed cut into boards and set back up to cut stickers, the stickers are in a finished state as they come off the mill.  It's a lot easier to hold the shorter pieces then a 10' + and after all, it's one place where close is good enough if one sticker is a little longer than the next. Yes i do waste sum slab material that may be made into stickers but as they say time is money. Any how that's my take on the subject.

What I do when cutting boards into stickers is put the boards against the log stops, place a 1.5" x 4" board on it's flat between the clamp and the boards.  I can cinch the clamp down tight.  Keeps the boards from popping loose.  My last piece of sticker is 1.5" x 1".

I make lumber first then cut to length. Makes for finished product coming off the mill. That is just what works best for me.

One advantage of cutting 2-3 times the sticker length in less then desirable logs is you have more flexability in pulling stickers between knots and other defects when trimming to length.
As well as less handling.

My stickers are a by product of making boards.  Currently I have a need of a few thousand 1x6 boards of varying length.  I mill the boards 1-1/16 by 7-7/8 then kiln dry.  After jointing, planing and ripping to width the residual pieces wider than 1" are cut to length and then run through the table saw using a power feeder.  End result is planed, straight and dry 40" 3/4 x 1" stickers plus finished boards.
