Just bought a new Husky 390XP to keep my 372XP company.  Don't they look happy together?

That's a sweet saw! I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you're the same DoubleClutchinWeasel from the BMT Mack website?

Incidentally, I got to run a couple of tanks of gas through the new one this evening.

I set the high speed needle to 12,500 RPM before I started, but with the engine warmed up, against the factory spec of 13,000. 13,000 is also the rev limiter setting.

I ran about 1 full tank of mix through it, cutting a fallen oak of about 32" diameter.  Man this thing cuts fast...and smooth.

After that first tank, I refueled it, made a few more cuts, and put the tach on it again. As expected,  it had picked up a few RPM from being limbered up a bit. So, I tuned it back a little richer. At about 12,000, it labors a little, taking a little longer to get up to full speed. Leaning it out to max out at 12,500-12,700 allows it to rev cleanly to that number. It still 4-strokes a little, and it stays off the rev limiter.

Ran through most of another tank. In the cut, the saw runs about 9,500-9,700 RPM, just letting the chain pull itself through. This 28" setup on the 390 pulls a little better than the 372 with the 24 on it. It is about effortless to cut through the oak.

When I finished for the evening, it was still turning around 12,500, and revved and sounded about perfect.

Incidentally, the high needle is about 1/2 turn out from where the original limiter cap was set. It was well into the rev limiter with the factory setting. A bit too lean for my taste.

Once broken in, I think this will be one serious cutting beast. I love it!

Ran most of another tank through it this evening. RPM still holding around 12,500. Still 9,500-9,600 in the cut.

I love this 390! It feels more or less like my beloved 372...just with more power. These two should hold me till I croak!
