To bad we can't hibernate like the bears. We've got about two feet on the ground now and more tomorrow and I'am in southern Massachusetts. Today I cleaned the carb on my little JD 420 crawler ready for the snow banks. Frank C.

That's a lot of momentum behind that plow. My great aunt had a big old house in Sussex at the top of a long grade I remember the old steam locos pulling the grade plenty of time to go watch. Canada used steam a little longer than U.S. Frank C.

Likely. I think I would have backed up a few feet seeing that coming, motorists aren't going to be pleased at the mess. I too am surprised CN didn't plow and it was going far too fast for the conditions, a moose on the tracks or a car on an unmarked crossing would have caused a major wreck. The crew  was driving blind.

The largest refinery in the country isn't too far from there in St John. I was on a train that hit a moose once, didn't hardly notice it. ;D

But one time the weight of the train was used to try and weight a bridge from being swept away with ice and flood water. That was not too smart. They had to fish train and bridge out of head pond water.

Thought the same, but even if they saw a moose or a car, they would not be able to stop the train in time. They just hit whatever is there... I read once what the stopping distance was with even a slow moving train. Don't recall the numbers, but the distance was pretty great.

I just got back from New Hampshire 2 days ago. I still don't know how you all live in those conditions 6 months out of the year. Maybe I'm a wimp, OK I'm probably a wimp..... when it comes to snow piled up to my window sills, I'll take south of the Mason Dixon every time. One thing to ponder....if we all loved the same locations, things might be a little crowded. It's in these moments, that diversity is a blessing from above!

I love the snow.  And sugaring, warming up by a woodstove after a cold day, skiing/boarding, snowmobiles, plowing, etc.  Wouldn't want to be without it.

Hate what the salt they put down on the road does to vehicles, and that business is slow around here in the winter time.
Boy, back in my day..

hunz, now if I could convince about another 500,000 people that way.  ;D  Trouble is they would come back during the other 6 months of the year.  :(

Percy,
Now that is some serious wintry mix! I bet you all have a lot of snow angels up there huh?

I like big snow in doses, I think everyone does, its just trying to work and drive in it that brings the blood pressure up. It's because of my poor patience that I must live in the South. I noticed everyone In New Hampshire having to shovel their cars out, and brooming them off, just to go to work. I'm just a moderate climate wimp. Kuddos to you troopers!

Got to admire the 'heavy iron' for the snow Percy. Once you get some momentum going, I bet there's not much that'll slow you down.
I'm on the Prairies, so our conditions are much different. We got about a foot of snow in mid-November and it's the same depth today. Its dry, cold and the white stuff that lands in the Fall only starts to melt out in March.
During a snowfall it tends to be warm, around -10 or 15 C, then the wind and a cold snap come in right after with a few days of -30 to -35. Nice and sunny but DanG cold.

:D :D :D :D Ya, it can be a pain...but its not unusual to get a heavy snow fall here 3 or 4 times a year. This year has been awesome though as this is the first one and it starts to melt around here early march.......so....three more weeks of cussin and we are all good. :D:D

Ya, the 966 is a great piece of equipment.  Got it in 07 and its tough. Had to put a head on it and change ring gear(pull the motor) but its a 1979 so she's a little long in the tooth :D

Nice truck and mill...What do you cut in your neck of the woods??? You must be near Winnipeg ya?? Gets colder than a bankers heart there I hear....

Hey, Percy. I was thinking of you when I saw the news this morning.

And meanwhile, here in snow country, we've had a week of snow, a week of rain, a week of snow, a week of rain. Right now it looks like it does in late April ???.
