I dried these walnut slabs last month. Three different people have told me that the Japanese and Chinese wholesale market pays up to $20/bf for these slabs. That makes these slabs worth about $2000 each IF you know the right people.  :o

Took me 20 days to dry them. Maybe I should give up vac kilns and just dry wood for a living!

Sounds like a plan, buyer pays shipping.....right?

Hello Den Socling, I don't know whether it is permitted to discuss business in detail on the forum, so I sent you a message.  :)

I wish you lived closer, Den. I would keep you busy.
I like Lucas Mills and big wood.  www.logboy.com

I am busy. Wish I had room for more vac kilns.

That price on your walnut reminds me I have to get back to a guy who was nice enough to select me to help him with moving his inheritance from Nigeria, really generous guy.... 8)

I don't know about the slab market, but I do know a guy that exports timber for chops to Japan- the little bits of wood with a carved end that is used in Asia like a seal to sign your name with. He gets around 40k for a 20' shipping container full.

Another guy I know exports timber into the USA - eucalypt poles into California for those joints built into cliff sides.

Anything exotic is expensive, and everything is exotic some other place in the world. Shipping and agents fees and customs issues can chew it up though, and finding a good agent can be difficult. On the bright side overseas junkets can become a tax write off. ;D
The quickest way to make a million dollars with a sawmill is to start with two million.
