Anyone familiar with this food? Just heard about it and appears the "grains" form from a culture.
Quote "Kefir grains are combinations of yeasts and bacteria living on a substrate made up of a variety of dairy components."

Saw reference on CL to someone willing to share their "kefir grains" at $10 for a piece of their culture.

There is some net info with reference to them by "These live kefir grains look a little bit like cauliflower florets and are somewhat gelatinous in texture. "

Not sure I could get past the looks of this "food". Maybe Poston knows about it, as their is mention of using a substrate of goats milk.

Anyone have this in their diet?

  Popular in Eastern Europe.
Thirty plus years in the sawmill/millwork business. A sore back and arthritic fingers to prove it!

We've been making it at home for the last six months or so.  It's very easy to make and tastes delicious, especially sweetened with our own home made honey.  We used these to get started: http://www.culturesforhealth.com/milk-kefir-grains.html

My wife [Ukranian] often laments the unavailability of kefir. I spent the first 5 years she was over here trying to find her some kefir. Finally gave up. Everyone I ask looked at me like I was crazy.
