I now have a good bunch of Scotts pine in my yard.
About 30 logs 8 to 16 foot...10" to 18" dia.

What would you do with this lumber?

I don't think its good for outdoor sheds...or is it?

Thanks

Scotts pine is a new one on me...if it ant southern yellow, I can't tell you much about it.  Saw it and throw a couple boards on the ground in the woods.  Check them this summer and see how they are doing [rotting, I mean spalting].

Any Scottys on here?

I milled 2 cants today and I could see a bit of green in there, maybe I have some hybrid logs with some Irish in them. :D

I built this shed almost entirely from Scots Pine off of our property. Seems to make pretty descent lumber, but I don't have any experience with other pine species.

Years ago I took down an old house in western NY...all scotch pine. neighbors stopping by said I was wasting my time as it was likely all junk. When they saw some of the beautiful timbers and boards coming out of it, They decided to offer their help, in exchange for a few pieces of junk of those nice old boards.  ;) :D I think you should saw em up.

I would use it anywhere I would use any other species of Pine!

We've used some here for building camps, sheds, etc.

Found out it's a little heavier than White Pine.

Around here there are plantations of it. Rumor has it that after the depression the CCC was planting trees, EWP and Red Pine. Some how the scots pine was planted by mistake, thinking it was red pine.

We harvested several plantations of it and it was sold to the same market as red pine saw logs. They don't grow as straight as red pine, a couple nice logs and then pulp.

@YoungStump  Nice looking shed to butcher your deer in.  Did you put a moisture barrier and/or use something different for under the floor? Just curious if you're worried about the base rotting out quickly.

Scots pine doesn't seem to grow well for logs around here. Usually very brushy.

Thanks, we actually use it for a furhandling shed, my brother and I do some trapping. I put double bubble under the floor and the whole shed is built on treated 4x6 skids.

Off site here.  Grows better in the far Northern latitudes.

A lot of the ones in our woods are dying off, most don't get over about 12"-14" DBH before dying. Seems these pines die off as the hardwood comes up through and takes over.
