The old truck rides good with a load like that on it. Yes I like the winch I will probably like it better when I learn how to use it I have not had it very long.

Don't pull at a sharp angle. It could tip the tractor over.   :o  I have made up some short chains,4 foot ones, for the small stuff. Much easier than pulling 3-4 feet  of chain through a chocker. I run 6 chokers,if I only use one that is fine, sometimes I use all 6. But they are there if needed. Yes,I may only have something that is 4 inches across on 6 chokers, but it does make things easier to have the 6 available,if needed. I work on my own land,so I cut the stumps low and maintain my woods road. I haul in rocks into a soft or uneven place. I made places to haul my chainsaw and gas and oil on the tractor. I also have a one inch round stock,I keep on the winch, that I use to pry the logs apart if I can't get the chains out. That winch will last for years. And than some!!

Is that  Locust?  Picture is too small for me to see but that log laying on the ground on the left looks like locust.  Maybe chestnut oak?  Looks like a nice view in the background from where you are cutting.  I'm a bit further up I-81 from you, maybe 3 hours or so.

I learned pretty quick not to pull sideways. I bought 4 chokers with my winch 3 that are about 5ft and 1thats 8ft.

peeworm

Yes the first rick on the truck is white oak and the rest of them are dead yellow locust.

That would be a year's supply of firewood for me.   ;D

Rub it in, Magicman.  We had one of the coldest winters on record here. It finally go tup into the 60's yesterday, which got some of the snow melting off. Got up this morning to find a fresh coating of snow on everything.  The Easter Bunny is goign to have a hard time hiding the eggs for the egg hunt tomorrow (the kids are getting a bit old for it, but it's still fun).
