Located a 2013 tk 1600 only about 2 1/2 hrs. from me
Only has 10 hrs .Owner has had some health problems and said he'd rather go fishing now.
He bought it new, fully hyd. but doesn't have setworks. My question is would you add setworks or buy mill that already has setworks.
Looks like I could save about 2000$,but would I have to take it to tk in Missouri to have setworks added.

Are you saving $2k vs buying a new one with setworks?

For only $3000 savings I would buy a new one and get a warranty. Or see how low he will go. Even with 10 hours it is still used.

While a setworks will save a few seconds on each drop it is a very expensive extra cost luxury item.  It is susceptible to damage, and will eventually fail due to aging.

A manual sliding scale can be more accurate and do things most setworks only dream about.  If it breaks its only a few dollar fix.

My setworks had a very steep learning curve but now its ok and its never broke.  I like it, but not enough to fix it if it ever breaks.

If I was a full time sawyer, time is money and I would have every gadget available to increase productivity.  But I'm not...just a part time shade tree sawyer.

I find a significant time and effecientcy difference between reading the  scale manually and relying on setworks. Granted I have the older version that's 10 yrs old now and currently inop. So I've been polishing my manual scale reading skills lately. But I sure miss the reliable 7/8, 1" 1/8, 1" 5/8 cuts that Iam used too.
