I think I'm going to shut down this week. Supposed to be in the mid 60's during the day and 40's at night. I just found out I am most likely going to need surgery on my left elbow. I am going to put it off until I can get my wood done for next year. I'm about half way there now if I stop burning now. I have about 1/3 of what I need dropped, I just need to split and stack it.

I have shut the heat off in the basement, just heating the living area. I have not turned the valves off for the heat yet. I am not burning much wood now. Temps are in the 60's at high noon.

We burn ours year round.  Wife likes the heat and if she opens a window in the afternoon, who cares.  Soon we will have the valves turned off and only running to the hot water heater.  With just the two of us we build a fire every other day or so to keep the hot water hot.  Like others have stated, it is a way to burn the sticks and assorted junkier wood.

I am envious of the wood shed and covered stove!  Wow!

Good Thread, nice shed.

I will keep mine going intil it gets too aggravating to keep the coals hot. So far so good with temp's ranging from 70-80's. I open the door to allow air to rejuvenate the fire (and check the wood supply) every evening after work. Haven't tried adjusting the T-Stat. I find this time of year the slabs work great.
Have turned the pump off which sends water to the heater coils, now just supplying hot water.

They're calling for single digit temperatures again the next week, will just keep on burning for another 10 or 14 days.  ;D
Make sure you know how to fall properly when you fall and as to not hurt anyone around you.
Also remember, it's not the fall what hurts, its the sudden stop. !!
