Ordered 25hp kohler to replace onan from wm yesterday. Any advice on the swap?

Hardest thing is lifting the old engine down and the new one up. I used the loader.

Have someone else there to help, hopefully someone with an idea of what's going on.

This isn't a complicated procedure.

Took my brother and I about 2 hours to swap the engines.

Don't butcher the Onan to get it off the mill, they're worth $$$$.

We ran the cable that attaches to the starter through the grooves in the bottom of the spacers that are required to raise the engine.

The Drive belt pulley is adjustable (horizontally) on the engine shaft, so make sure that is lined up with the drive wheel pulley.

Save the old belt, and belt shield, and keep them with the onan!

Does a stock side shaft kholer bolt on or does woodmizer modify the ones they sell?  Someone is wanting to sell me a 20something hp kholer for a couple hundred and I'm tempted to go for it as a backup.

All engines are not created the same. The ones that run a welder or something that is a direct link as a Lovejoy fitting don't have as big a bearing on the output shaft as the ones designed to have a side load as in belt drive.

Does the Onan have an external ignition coil? If so, you will need to change the ignition switch to a magneto style and change some of the wiring. Don't feed 12v to the Kohler ignition.

I didn't do anything special during the engine swap, just hooked up the wiring as per the instruction packet that came with the Onan.
