How Long to find work

Hey everyone I'm sitting around today not much to do with this rain and was just thinking how long  it took you guys to find work for yourselves when you first started out. I'm just starting out but consider myself kind of lucky and am extremely grateful to of found a lot as quickly as I did. I know a lot of people in my area either find work really easy and quickly or takes them a long time to find anything.

I started out with a circle mill doing custom sawing then a few years down the road I like the woods end of the business better. Kocked on doors and would bid on a few state forest marked jobs. But anymore it seems to come to me but 43 years in the business about every body in my area knows me and what I do. Very Blessed  ;).

 Have you tried talking to new home builders.  Their lots and driveways have to be cleared..

The logger that I have cut mine land is a year behind on jobs,or more. It takes time to get your name out there,be it good or bad. Just do a good job,keep things clean,that means you too. Pay the land owner when you say you will. Walk the land with them,talk to them and find out what they want. Yes,things will go wrong,address them,let the land owner know that you are having problems.

Like yer self I had a job lined up before I went whole hog with insurance and what not, played at it for awhile before hand...

But once I got that first decent project it seemed like before one was done I was bidding on the next, so I was able to keep the machine moving for awhile.

Had a little slow down over the winter of about 3 months or so but I needed to fix stuff anyway, and the markets are a little depressed here so I'm not too worried, things seem to be picking up again...

Have 2 projects for sure right now, moved the skidder Sat to the first... they are small, but work is work, and waiting to hear about a third as well as a few others that are waiting on random stuff (like weddings?)

Do a good honest work and in time You'll be turning down work.  We are backed up 2 yrs and mill forester wanted us to look at jobs for them but just can't do. Working for farmers is how we started. It's a bummer not being able to help everyone out.

I guess I said this wrong I was just wondering how long it took you guys to find work. Right now im busy and should be for atleast the next 10 months or so.

As lots of you know I just got an 80 acer lot, have a nice big one lined up for this winter and this morning down at the local gas station was stopped by a man who has 12 acers of popple he wants cut this winter.

Don't line up more work than you can do.

Not sure how long it took to find our first job but when we did it was a load off the chest and nice to know we had wood to cut. We celebrated with going out for pizza 8).
