Hi there,

I added a "new" Husky 61 to my portfolio. Made it on an auction on Ebay for a few bucks. The saw came pretty dirty to me in a box with a 18 inch bar 3/8th, 68 DL

I cleaned the saw the other day and it turned out its in pretty good shape for the age. The serial plate is not readable, but the engine is marked made 1994. Must be one of the latest ones of this generation.

The chain has almost gone, the sprocket still looks good and the bar is used but not worn out.

Today I put in some gas in an oil. Four pulls and the engine started! What a sound! Wooaah! 62 ccm and almost 4 HP!

Have a new bar handy and new sprocket and will change it later. Love this saw!

Hope it works with the images. I am not sure if I did it right....

The images are just fine. Good score, that is a great firewood saw.

Yes, the saw sharted after just four pulls and runs very smooth.

On the weekend, I change the chain to a new one. The old is worn out.

When I was bidding for the saw I checked it out on the web and most people love the saw. With a friend we go wood cutting in fall and the saw will co-operate with his new 435 Husky. I pick his saw up in Detroit next week. Husky saws are cheaper in the US :-)  ;D

I am using the sae for tree cutting up to 2 foot and firewood cutting of same and also laeger diameters. I prefer chisel chains on my saws.

I am amazed that you can purchase a new saw for less in North America. I frequently got calls wanting to buy here and take as carry on luggage to the country of origin.

I wish we could do that with all the discontinued saw models in Mexico and Brazil.
Haven't heard of anybody actually doing it though.

I got my 460 Rancher for $ 499, price in Europe 800 Euros. When I bought it the conversion was 0.8 Euro = 1 USD. This makes it even cheaper.

Just put it in my bag and took it back home.  8)

I don't  think airport security would allow a chainsaw in a carry on bag :D

Not as carry on. I check the saw. Bar off, chain off and drained tank. Then it works perfectly fine.

Even with  the tank drained there can't  be any gasoline fumes what so ever the airlines told me.
I almost brought a brand new Stihl MS381 home from Mexico  last winter, but the dealer had previously fueled it up. I wasn't going to risk having a brand new saw confiscated by the Mexican customs.

As long as the fuel system is completely purged the airlines will accept it. Whether the EPA will allow it into the country is another matter.

What if it were partially dismantled? Then it would be parts.

nice look'n 61, if you ever get disappointed in power, or have the misfortune of the top end going south, you can always upgrade to a 268 or 272 top end, i own a few 61's I've converted to 272's, they run quite nice!!............. ;D

For the age she is in pretty good shape. It was a kind of a gambe to get this on ebay, no warranties, no returns.... But after cleaning I put in some fuel and some bar oil she jumped working after 4 pulls only.

Runs idle very smooth, speeded it up: She is aggressive!  8) The engine sound is great! I fueld her with Aspen 2T fuel. Works without problems. We run this gas over here quite frequently: No hassle with Ethanol in the gas, less problems with the carburators and fuel lines. Less bad emissions. The fuel is somewhat more expensive as regular but I have a good source not too far away from our house selling it for a very good price.

I got some parts in for her: A new sprocket, the installed one is ok but no longer good and a new bar with chisel chains (all 18 inch as installed now). What I need is a air filter an then I think all maintenance is done and she is good to go in the woods.

Go to Motown (Detroit) tomorrow and get the brand new saw for my friend. Its a Husky 435. He is an occasional user and the size is ok for him. He is not very experience either. We will cut wood in october and the 61 is for the harder jobs; the 435 for the ligher ones. Stay in motown for a week; be back then 2 weeks later for vacation in Michigan: Just do nothing.......

In the future I will certainly check out for a bigger one as a 472 but for now I am ok for the jobs I have to do.  :)

I have always the bar off, chain stored. The tank open overnite before leaving and let dry inside out.

i own a 435 as well, great little trail saw, but you might want your friend to look at the 440 for just a few more bucks, they seam to run much better than the 435..........i think the bigger saw you're referring to is the 372........

tranabo_bjoern

Yes its the 372.

I suggested my friend the 440. He wanted the 435. Ok, not a bad choice....

I notice the green fuel cap, normally that's the feature of a cat muffler saw. I'm  not 100% sure if cat mufflers were available  on a 61 in 1994.
Cap might not be original.

I do not know if the green was put on as a spare. It was on when I got it. Ran the saw for test today, great sound.  8)
