Big homemade wood Splitter: https://youtu.be/v575CsJVbzA

It's got a 16hp engine from a golf course reel mower and a 28gpm hydraulic pump.  Three spool valve,  1 for the splitter, 1 for the log lift, and 1 for the adjustable 4 way wedge.

Nice looking splitter. Looks like a good start for a firewood processor. Add a infeed and a saw and your there.

Thanks. I have a hakki pilke 1x37 processor but it won't handle most big or knotty wood. I thought about turning this splitter into a combination, large splitter AND processor. ... time will tell. I work on things in the evenings in my garage, love to build, when I'm not splitting. This year I had 26+ full cord delivered for an 82 townhouse subdivision. The homeowners association dues include firewood for the fireplaces in the units. Mostly vacation homes, it's near a ski resort. It's a lot of work to do right in the open sun.......

Looks like a wedge with multiple splitting ears would speed up your production in a big way by not having to walk around and re-position rounds. If you think it has the ummmfff to push it through I would defiantly consider it. Jason

I appreciate people with foresight!. I also built a 6 way wedge for it. When I took the video, it was the first time I've used it since completion. I was splitting some seriously knotty hard maple that day and wasn't sure how it would hold up. It did fine. Thinking maybe about an 8 way wedge. It could handle it with straight grain wood easily. The wood needed to be fireplace size. Got a later start this year, less time to dry, most of the vacationers don't even know how to start a fire with good wood so...... smaller is o.k. Next time Possibly a box style wedge?? I don't mind making changes. I'll do a walk around video with commentary if anyone's interested.
I've also got several other hydraulic cylinders so I may make other style splitter, in the future.

Fantastic unit! I like how it has a processor style belly pan and very nice cycle time! Very well put together unit!!!!! I'd love to see it with a box style wedge like a tempest has. I've thought of building one like a tempest but faster cycle time and only one out feed tray. I know it makes sense to use both cylinder movements to split but I don't want splits coming out both sides of the machine and unless you use two one way cylinders one side is gonna be a lot weaker than the other as the cylinder retracts.
