My Sachs Dolmar 116si is having a consistent problems starting...saw has been almost completely rebuilt, piston, cylinder, carb kit, air filter, fuel line, new off/on switch, spark plug...I run nothing but ethanol free fuel & quality bar oil...it will fire up when I go pick it up from the shop...and few weeks later...NOTHING! I've been boasting about how it runs circles around my MS390...but that means nothing if the @#$%^&* THING never starts up!!! smiley_furious
I'm supposed to go harvest a serious size Shagbark hickory in the morning...looks like it's me, the 025 & the MS390 AGAIN!! :'(
Any ideas or possible solutions??

Thanks,
Reg

Choke closing all the way?  I just had a Husky where the fast idle was set real low and took for ever to start,  set it faster and it starts a lot better now.   Also try opening the low adjuster a little, if set a little lean it's hard for the choke to pull mix through . How's the impulse line or some use a hole in the carb mount, make sure it's not partially clogged.  Steve

No choke flap on the si it has a injection valve instead.

Take the plug out and have a look, is it wet or dry after trying to start?

Dry plug = not getting enough fuel.

Wet plug = getting to much fuel or not getting good spark.

With the plug out check for spark when turning it over it should spark good with out having to pull full speed, it should have a good spark while turning a bit slower than you can turn it over with plug in.

Other easy things to check is coil/flywheel gap, The kill switch on those were sometimes quirky disconnect the switch and check for short to ground on kill wire, insulation chafed off etc.

Orange colored spark is not the best , blue is the strongest.

Yes nice blue snap of a spark.

It is easier to generate a spark to jump the plug gap @ atmospheric pressure it takes a lot more to do this under compression.

To compensate for this when testing with the plug out it helps to increase the gap, the spark should be able to jump from the centre electrode to the side of the plug with the ground electrode bent all the way up or removed. Also you could get a spark tester.

Sounds more like a fuel problem as it fires up when picking it from the shop,  what do those injected carbs do for a cold start.  Also a weak impulse line or circuit would cause trouble after sitting as it wouldn't want to pump gas.  Steve

It is with keyboard in use and a heavy heart I inform you that my lil Dolmar 116si has a supposed scored piston!!
This $#@&&//# saw has not cut 10 sticks of wood!!!
How this occurred I haven't a clue???

Saw would not start the last 2 days...poured gas in carb
..and still nothing. Took by the fellers shop practically rebuilt it...he pulled it open and saw plenty of scratches! !!!!
Wow...just speechless. Told em to go through it and tell me what it needs...
Talk at ya later
