You can replace the seal from the outside, but you have to get flange off, the nut is torqued to 250 ft. lbs. so you have to block the other end of the output shaft some how so you can get the flange nut loose. Don't just hammer away with an impact gun, you could damage one of the gears on the output shaft or the gear driving it. Once you get the flange off you should be able to see the seal, at that time you can see if the seal can be removed from the outside, if not you will have to take the brake backing plate off then take the 4 bolts out of the cover and remove it and and replace the seal from there, I just can't remember the last time I did that how it went. You will also have to replace the oring from the cover also, the other thing that will find is some shims between the cover and the transmission, they are there to set the preload on the output shaft bearings, don't loose them and put them back the way they were if the bearing looks OK and you can use it over. if you need to replace the bearing this becomes a major job. Let me now how you make out, and I can copy the pages out of the manual to open the transmission up if you have to.Probably will not have to do all that but I thought that you should know it.
PS, I did put all this on an IM to you but I put it on here for others to see it.

Thank you very much for the information. I thought it might be possible. I have a service manual and parts manual.I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the process.not sure when I will look into this but will keep you posted 😊.

Where would be a good place to buy parts for a Clark 28000 transmission ? I need a suction screen and some seals and control  cables .

You should be able to get them through an Aftermarket Parts inc. ( rightparts.com) distributor.  Also at bowers transmission.com.

Tore into the transmission leak armed with the information from oldseabee. I would like to get the emergency brake working and I knew the leak would keep that from happening.  The only thing wrong was the nut that held the yoke on was very loose. Was able to use it today around the Mill and will take to the landing and load with it later this week.
