Hi all

I had the shaft snap in two on my debarker yesterday, it was the small electric motor that drivers the debarker in and out, NOT the larger debarker motor itself.

Is this shaft piece replaceable or is it TIG weld country or new small motor time?

Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks in advance
Justin

I don't think just the shaft can be replaced, looks like a motor replacement!

I am assuming you are talking about the small Klauber 12 Volt gear reduction motor that drives the in and out belt pulley. The shaft is replaceable. Part #009695. This is for the Mark II debarker. Confirm with WM that this is the shaft part number for you particular debarker revision.

That would be good!
I assume mine is a v1 debarker as its orginal 97 i guess?

I hope all is well with you John?

I see that 009695 as a shaft kit in the WM parts finder, $21.  How is the shaft replaced? Aren't all the motor windings, commutator attached to the shaft?

seems like I had some replacement parts for these motors sent to me, and the shaft was one of them.  Mine broke at the 1/8" dia hole.   It's been years ago, so its hard to recall exactly without tearing back into one.
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Hello,
There is a gear box at the bottom of the motor. The shaft is held on with external snap rings. You will need a real small snap ring pliers. You can just use a small needle nose also. You will also need a torx screw driver. Take a picture of the gears so you remember how they go back together.

Some things to check that may make the shaft break.   Belt to tight, rod that has the spring on it should have some lube, There is a hinge that also may be binding. The belt also gets rusted in the pulley and will form the shape of a triangle and get real hard. Take the belt off and move it to a different location when you are doing your maintenance once a year. I think there was a post of one like this some time back.
This motor is also use for the blade guide arm and the board return. The Mark I and Mark II use the same motor for in and out.
This motor is use a lot on WM equipment and works real well.

Hope this helps.

Last one of these I saw fail, I turned a new shaft out of a grade 5 bolt. They usually break through the roll pin hole. On the in/out application, I turn the gear around backwards and drill the roll pin hole ½ inch further out. I understand new ones now use a set screw rather than a roll pin.

Thanks all

Yes, there is a roll pin in there.
Belt was new a year ago as the last belt had that deformed triangle look about it.
I suspect some dummy (me) did the belt up to tight stressing it for the last year or so..

I will make sure all is greased before rebuilding it.

NZ WM agent says he probably has the shaft in stock, otherwise I will come up with something.

Cheers
