Spring Hunt is On in Ontario

MNR announced yesterday that the spring bear hunt is on in all wildlife districts of Ontario including non residents.  It's about time. Let the cull begin to decrease the numbers.. Way too many bears for my liking.

Happy to hear it! Its about time control is put back in the hands of people who understand and are trained in wildlife management, instead of no-nothing politicians.

This is great news for the tourist industry in Ontario.Many of the outfitters in Northern Ontario will benefit. The exchange rate will make hunting in Ontario very attractive to American hunters.

   The exchange rate has my brother and I thinking about a fishing trip. We made quite a few trips to Quebec for Walleye & Pike but I would consider Ontario if I knew where there is good Walleye fishing.

  Lake St Joe/Pickle Lake area is a long way from PA, but well worth the drive. Dad started going in 72' and I've been lucky enough to only miss 2 years since 86'. If you catch 10 or 12 walleyes a day per person, you had a BAD day of fishing.  :D   Plenty of trout and big pike as well.

Douglas from Camp Lake st Joseph used to moose hunt with us in the Geraldton area.he always had great fishing stories to tell.

Good news.  Fly in fishing camps I have been to had more bear problems after spring hunting was banned.  I would rather have spring bear hunters harvest potential problem bears than have them shot as nuisance bears.

Lady Evelynn Lake is one of the best walleye fisheries in the province.  Also a lot of speckle lakes around it. Also some good fishing in the Matachawan area west of Elk Lake. If u come up you drive right by me on highway 11

Wow! I am glad they finally brought the spring hunt back. I've hunted bear and fished up there in August, and absolutely love my time. Killed a good bear and caught a lot of pike, bass, and lake trout. Beautiful area.
