I have located a 1993 Woodmizer LT40HD/G24 mill with under 500 hours.  Gentleman bought the mill to build a home from Poplar and mill has been in dry storage the entire time and from the photos, this mill looks very close to brand new!  I know there are a ton of folks on Forestry Forum that used WoodMizers daily.  I plan to make an offer on this mill and would appreciate, very much,  your opinion as to this mill's value.   It also has a lap sider attachment, sharpener/setter and 12 bands.  Owner says everything works and it cranks up and runs well. Thanks for your help!!!

Well, if it's in the shape you describe, I'd be tempted to offer (assuming he didn't give you a price) half or a little more of what a new one sells for today!

Half is most likely more than he paid for the mill back in '92.

Should be a real sweet mill.   8)

Sounds like a great find!  My dad bought a LT40/G18 (manual mill) new in 1994 for approximately $13,000 including blades, cant hook, and delivery and set up from GA.

I would guess that the 1992 hydraulic mill probably sold for approximately $14,000 to 15,000 new back then.  I bet someone on here could probably tell you exactly.

The equivalent mill today looks like it is about $26,000 plus tax.  So if you offer him half the new price, which would be $13,000 that would probably be a little less than what he paid, but really close.

Keep in mind that today's mills have some really nice improvements over the older ones.  The 1992 model will have a lighter frame, the older swing around bed rail design is less robust and takes a little more maintenance, and it won't have the bi-directional log clamp.  Those are the big differences besides the obvious set works, debarker, lubmizer, etc.  Keep those in mind as you calculate your offer.

Good luck!

As has been mentioned elsewhere, ask Wood-mizer. They have used book values for their mills. Google "Woodmizer orange book" to get started.

Contact Wood-Mizer for sure.

Some owners think that low hours should translate into bigger dollars. In fact, the age of the mill is the predominant factor. The base-line Wood-Mizer today comes standard with many features that I paid thousands of dollars to add to my mill. Over the years the frame has become stronger, the clamp has improved, and many other parts have been redesigned.

Hello,
$ 10,000 would be a deal!! $ 15,000 would be over priced. Would think the $ 12,000 Peter suggested would be fair price. Any blades, manuals, Certificate of Origin? LTAGA sharpener was a common option in 1994. I would not place much value on the sharpener or setter. Anything missing?  Like fenders, clamp 3" extension, water bottle etc. would lower the value. Mud saw or debarker?  Shingle maker? Are other nice options that may add to the value.
Just my 2 c.
