A while back someone mentioned how hard it is to turn large logs or cants on a manual mill.  Here are two methods I have used.  With the first method, before I had the hook made, I would drive a 3/8" bolt through the chain about an inch into the log.  After turning the log the bolt was unscrewed out of the log.  The hardest part of the second method is convincing  the better half that you need to buy an tractor to load a $1600 sawmill.
