hbeane,

The clear anchorseal is white and looks like milk when you apply it but dries clear.

If you are ever headed south and have time call and come by. I am about 85 miles south of Charleston between I-64 and I-77 below Beckley.

I would love to come see you.  Spend a little time with someone that knows what they are doing and not just learning as I go.  Sometimes I get down that way and I just might take you up on your offer. I appreciate it.

I used a different color anchorseal than what I put on my customer logs...often, I am drying the boards for them, and saw more of my own logs for the kiln load to make it worthy, then I get some inventory too. I have also used spray paint on the sides of the logs near the face, marking my indexing so it is easy to see. It usually points out checks to index, but sometimes defect...
To me, trees felled in winter just means the bark is harder to get off...

After you get done visiting with someone who knows what they are doing then come see me and we will both benefit from the experience :D. Any time a sawyer stops learning as he goes its probably because he has gone to that big sawdust pile in the sky. Looking forward to seeing you.

With the clear anchorseal, it is easier to see the growth rings, and this can be important with some sawing patterns like quartersawing.

I just cut my first Walnut logs 2 each that had been split in half a couple months ago. Was using 4 degree .045 blades customer wanted live edge through and through 23 inches was widest cut. I struggled with HP on the wide cuts. Had lots of pitch on blades and had to run lube full blast to finish. Blade was toast after the job logs were pretty clean of dirt and no metal.
