I'm talking to a guy that has a Baker Edger with only 30 hours and a 20hp Honda engine. He got it at a sale and says it look new, maybe 4 or 5 years old. I would like to talk to someone here that has one. I don't have an edger or ever used one. So if anyone has one and would pm me with their phone number I would give them a call.  Thanks

I have one. I bought it used but it wasnt used much. I really like it. However I have switched it over to a electric motor as we had some issues with the honda 20.

PM me anytime. Phone has been sketchy lately.

Hi Paul  What size electric motor did you replace the Honda 20 with? How did the power compare?     Muggs

7.5 hp. I had it  so thats the reason i didnt go with a 10hp. I love it. flip the switch and your up and running! We only edge 2'' at the most and usually 1.25''. it goes through that plenty fast.

Thanks Paul.  Do you have 3 phase or are you running off a phase converter?    Muggs

I dont have 3 phase. I fixed up the older mill on 15hp 3 phase running off a 20 hp rotary phase converter(rpc). Then we got a newer mill back in Feb. that had a 25hp 3 phase so I got a 30 hp rpc to run it, however the motor I put on the baker edger is a plain jane 220v single phase 7.5 hp.

If you're buying a used mill/edger from someone you don't know, it's always a good idea to get the serial number of the unit before you deal. Then ask the manufacturer for any information they might have. If it was owned by someone who maintained the machine properly (like me ;D), the manufacturer should have a record of all the non-generic parts that were purchased for it. And if the machine has been reported stolen, the manufacturer will know that, too.

I know of one case where someone bought a used edger for cash, and eventually needed to order a part. The manufacturer had a policy of not selling non-generic parts to people they don't know, unless the customer provided a serial number. In this case it turns out the customer had purchased a stolen mill years before :(.
