Hi, Dave, Sorry to hear about your back problems.  We'll miss you at the Shoot-Out this year.  Try to stay positive about things, and cherish your family.  Knowing you, you'll find good work ahead.  Send me a PM if you need help at the mill, and come by sometime for a visit.  All the best, brother.

Good luck and prays sent. Life changing events has a way to make us stronger. I know first hand.

Come next November, it will be 6 years I been fighting heart failure. I had to quit my job of 30 years. I cried like a baby at first. More so after the doctors told me and my wife that I had less then 6 months without a heart transplant. At that time, I was to weak for a transplant. Well, they wanted to put a LVAD in me. Flat out turn that down. Told them that day to just get me back up on my feet.

4+ years from that time and I went out 1 1/2 years ago, bought a sawmill. I give thanks to our Good Lord and my family for the support they give me every day. My transplant team just tell me to keep doing whatever I'm doing. They are shocked on how much I had improved. ;D

Yes, I still have very "bad" days. And yes, they are coming more and more often. I just have to rest more. I have to do blood work once a week to keep an eye on how the ticker is doing. But, I have a strong mine and will to keep going and with the help of our Good Lord and family, I will keep sawing and enjoy life.  Keep your head up. Don't give in. Give it a little time before you throw in the towel all together.

Wishing you an event free surgery and recovery.

Like others here I've had a life changing event take place, in my case spinal injury.
At the time I thought it was the start of the end. Only later did I realize that it was in actuality the end of the start.
The quickest way to make a million dollars with a sawmill is to start with two million.

Sorry to hear the news Dave.  Best of luck with the surgery.

Brother David...Our family will say a prayer for a smooth surgery and a great recovery. super-smiley

Change is never easy. I've seen quite a few guys here get knocked down by illness or injury, but most have managed to get back to what they love doing, whether its sawing or something else entirely. It takes determination, a supportive family and a positive attitude, but from what I can see, you got all three. ;) :) For now, just get through the surgery. Then embrace the rehab. Then begin to consider the opportunities in front of you. Remember David...when one door closes, somewhere, another one always opens.
What is this leisure time of which you speak?
