Just curious what others with a stationary setup are using for dust collection? I always ran a 2HP dust collector from harbor freight on my LT-50 and never had any issues. It won't keep up with my LT-70 now though. The CFM is 1550 on that blower and I was looking at a 3HP Grizzly with a CFM of 2300. Do you think that would do the trick? I'm limited on options because I don't have 3 phase power (and I would rather not have to install a phase convertor.)

Thanks

5hp with a 16" impeller will move a lot of air (this is what I have setup for my woodshop).  Both can be ordered through Clear Vue Cyclones.  And 5hp can be run on single phase.

I just set up a stationary mill and went through the pains of putting my system together. The mill is a Baker 3650E with edger. I decided on a blower from Meadows Mills does a great job handling the mill and edger at the same time. Blower is belt driven with 15hp 460v 3 phase run from a VFD. Dust is deposited in a 8' x 12' dust room added to mill building.

The picture showing the dust room was still being built but shows the set up.

tmbrcruiser....You spared no expense on that set up Sir...good to see the BAKER BLUE doing the job.  Question I have is....If the mill is portable  and the shed accessible end to end Is your dust collection system easily detachable to accommodate "off again on again" use?  Also....does your BAKER have the new "weighted scrapers on it?

With that Baker being electric I doubt he will be doing any portable sawing. ;)

:D  Thought I posed the question with the "IF" part to clarify that...Just wanted to know how simple the detaching and reattaching process was..looks simple enough but was not sure of the tube tracker....be nice to have something as nice as that no matter the application.

I knew what you were getting at. I was just being a smart a$$$. No offense meant.

I've been using a Honda GX200 (6.5hp) coupled to the blower from a 2.5hp electric unit. It has to be full-throttled for wide pine, but it handles it. It's about 4000 rpm vs. 3600 on the original electric motor, so it should only be using about 3 hp. It has a 6" by 20' inlet hose and 5" by 20' out blowing into the original dust collector head minus the lower bag. It makes for a clean pile compared to blowing straight out the hose.

Just for comparison, running a 20" planer at an 1/8" pass, it takes 4 hp and a 6" dust hose, although in that case I actually have two dust collectors plumbed in series. Always an option if 3hp isn't enough, and in my case I run the blowers off 115v to free up the 230v plug for the planer.

Bluejay27....sounds like a good option....are you talking about the type blower used in a wood shop?...with drops to each unit...but insted you you that type blower just for the mill?
