Had a guy call me today who claims he cant find a sawmill in Geogia to cut some Hickory logs that he has. They are big-32" diameter range and 16' long but he said he would cut them to 8'. He can bring logs to you. He wants to bring them all the way up to Michigan this spring to have me saw them. Thats OK but there has to be someone in his neck of the woods.
Anyone interested? He is supposed to call back in a few weeks and I will pass on your info.

32" maybe a lil big for the LT15 but if he cant find anybody else, we can probably get it done.

There is plenty of mills in Ga. I'm one of them plus many others that do fine work. Hickory can be difficult to saw in this neck of the woods as there is lots of stress. Getting it to dry flat is another challenge. It will also need to be protected from insects so there is lots of extra work that go into sawing hickory.

That sounds like a job in Brunswick I looked at a couple of days ago.  Yes, he has some hickory logs on a trailer.  Yes, a couple of those logs are 16' long.
No, those are not saw logs.  If you cut 'em to 8' they're straight enough to saw.  They're knots from end to end, and I'm talking knots up to 8".  No way you can get a usable board out of them once it's dried.  I turned the job down.
He had one log there that was beautiful.  About 32" diameter, perfectly straight, and not a knot on it.  It was about 4' long.
I refuse to take a job when I know for a fact the customer isn't going to get his money's worth out of my labor.  He didn't like to hear it, but those logs are firewood.

Just going to scope out the job cost you mileage and time.  I'm sure he appreciated your honesty.

If it is indeed him and he's still looking for someone to saw them, apparently not!

It did seem weird that he couldn't find a sawyer in Ga. If he calls back I'll get more details on location and then post here.
