For one set of brothers, I converted a pair of solid oak drawer units that I bought at an auction into a desk-like unit to go in the space under their basement stair case.  I only needed to add the three drawers between the end drawer units, the top, and three personalized chairs.  The daughter used some sort of procedure to make everything look old.

Very nice.  The finish does look old and with a nice patina.
