I recently bought a stihl 880 and it came with a 25 inch bar with a ripping chain on it. I plan on using the saw for many things from felling elms and cottonwoods with 4ft+ trunks to ripping slabs with an alaskan mill. I have a 404 sprocket on right now but am stuggling to find 404 bars for sale anywhere. I would like to get both a 48"+ bar ripping and one for felling. Any advice for getting the most at of my 880 would be greatly appreciated.

.404 bars are available but not common in the length you want. Cannon likely has them but be prepared for a serious hit on the credit card, they are high quality limited production bars. Maybe Comstock, a Forestry Forum sponsor, can help.

If ever this thread is useful for anyone else, there are Stihl 3/8 guide bars which have 13 teeth bar noses. These noses can be replaced with a 404 nose because the noses have the same size and they are interchangeable on this bar. I can post the part numbers if someone is interested
