This has been a good one,20+ years old (red one) I would like to save it if I could.
Here is what's going on.It is flooding,gas is running out the bottom of muffler.After many pulls sometimes it will fire&run a few sesonds.
This is what I have done :
1 Turned in low speed adjusting screw until it bottomed then backed out 3/4 turn.
2 Fresh oil&gas mix.
3 Spark plugs. (tried 2 new ones)
4 Tested spark.Used a 1/4 inch bolt in end of spark plug wire while cranking and holding bolt next to muffler. got spark at 1/8 inch but no spark if held more than 1/8 inch.
5 Checked kill switch(continuity in one direction only)
6 Checked kill switch wire,OK
Need to know :
When testing ignition module, where do I put OHM meter leads?
What is resistance tolerance suppose to be?
Could bad gaskets etc. etc. in carburetor be causing flooding?
Is there anything that could cause flooding other than carburetor or ignition module?

Don't test for spark like that, get an inline lamp.
Idle screw is 1 3/4 turns out.
High speed is 1 1/4 turns out.
Make sure the choke and related linkage is working properly.
You could be due for a carb rebuild.

I will readjust idle&high speed. What is a inline lamp? Thanks Kevin

Ed;
It's a small test lamp that clips in line between the spark plug and spark plug wire to protect the saws electronic ignition if so equipped.

Spend the $10 bucks for a carb diafram/needle carb refresh (rebuild) kit and more likely than not your problem will go away. Also I have to keep those cooling fins really clean or the fuel will boil in the tank!!!

More than likely,you have a puckered diaphram.Tillotson,has an excellent web site,that descibes carb tuning.As Wieme said,a kit is only about $10.I have 2 Lombards,of the Al 42 series{ Comanga,and Lightning II ],which are a take off,of this design,but about 1 cu in larger.They also will boil the gas,if the fins get plugged.Good old saws,they sold a bunch of them .

Thanks for gas boiling tip.The fins have a lot of saw dust accumilation.I have noticed gas boiling during heavy cutting in hot weather,they will get cleaned.

Thanks for the carb site.Around 38years ago(when I was a pup) I helped install flooring& ceiling tile in a More's store in Lima. Worked in BellevueOH.in 1989 for 7 months with railroad.Beautiful country up there.

Hey Mr Ed ;Moores,went belly up,about 10 yrs ago,I miss it,used to get 15% off,on lumber,contractors discount[ I told a lttle fib] Try MSC,for those rebuild kits,I've had good luck with them,and usually order 4 or 5 at a time.If I recall,correctly,the Tillotson Hs series,are all about standard,but on the larger Hl,you have to watch the numbers on the main diaphragm,and fuel pump checks,to get the correct ones.I've been at it so long,that I have kits,that fit the little weed wacker size Mini Macs,to the giant model HD,used on Harley sportsters.Now,if I could just remember where I put them,duh.
