I thought I would ask here before I started wrenching/inspecting my MS 261 C-M. What would I use to plug the compression release valve if I were to remove it? Does anyone have a photo of the inside of a head with a compression release valve installed? I'm just curious what it looks like from the combustion side of things because I've never disassembled an engine containing one. Is it flush? How big is the orifice?

I'm not sure why this 50cc saw has one. What's the point?

Stihl makes a compression release plug that will screw in place of the the valve when you remove it. P/N is 1122 025 2200.

Are you having trouble with it? That is a high compression saw, it makes things easier on the operator and rewind components. I suppose you could install a replacement plug, just remember to carry extra starter cord. ;D

I've had my 261 (pre CM) for a few years and sometimes I press the compression relief but not usually, never had a problem either way. I wish my 044 had one.

I've got a 362 c-m and it takes less effort to start without the compression release then an old 024 that I have. That 362 takes less effort to pull start them my weedeater.

PNWRusty, these images could be useful  smiley_paparazzi

You can use the stock combination tool if it has the 1/2" (13mm) socket on the other side, or a similar sized long box to remove the decompression valve.

That's great. Thanks for the photos and part number Joe and Blueberry!
