Second, it is violently opposed; and

Wow! That is really beautiful!  :o

Whenever we all gather at my folk's home, we girls always get a game of scrabble going. It is great fun. I swear my sister-in-law spends all her spare time looking up new words to win with!  ::)

Thganks for all the kind words, but if y'all knew how many times I had to cut all them little pieces before they got right , you'd all be laughin' at me!  :P

There's 46 pieces of wood in it. The frame and dividers are made of the first Walnut and Cherry I ever sawed and dried myself--this Christmas is the first year I've been able to work exclusively with my "own" woods after 3 years of sawing and drying.  ::)

For the playing surface itself, I cheated and used a piece of 1/2 norwegian birch plywood. I screenprinted the lettering on the board with black lacquer and carefully dadoed and grooved it on the tablesaw with spacer blocks to accomodate all them little 1/8" Cherry strips.

I stopped keeping track, but I think I ended up putting more than 30 hours into it. It was a $300 commission, so I lost my butt on it but that's OK since the fella it's going to is kinda a hero to me--he was one of the main leaders of the anti-redlining/fairness-in-lending campaigns here in Memphis during the height of the civil rights movement.  :-*

BTW, I have the screen to print more boards, so if any other scrabblers out there want to take a shot at making their own boards, I can print you one on whatever species of plywood you like.     ;D

Great work and attention to detail Scott.  Cherry and walnut always look nice together.  Somebody is gonna be a happy camper. :)
