For a Christmas present my wife let me stop at the Grizzly store in P.A. ( only 'cause we was drivin by any way). They have some nice looking equipment. Also had some cheap looking tiwaneeese looking hand tools. But the big stuff looks well built and heavy-duty.
Anybody using Grizzly tools? How are they holding up?

Moosehunter,

I cleared their sales floor for 'em on their last day here in Memphis before they moved to Springfield, MO.

All the stuff on the floor was already marked 20-30% off and when they started closing the doors I says, "I'll give ya 50% of what's marked on this and this and that and ya won't have to break 'em down to ship 'em." Thay says, "A'ight".  ;D

I managed to stuff an 8" jointer, 15" planer, 12" tablesaw, 6"x48"x12" combo sander and a bench drill press in the bed of my Toy 4x4.  :o

I've had it all 6 years now with nary a problem and what problems there was with little things missing and whatnot due to them being display units was fixed up immediately by their excellent customer service.

The only major problem was the windings going bad on the tablesaw's 5hp motor (Taiwanese) after 5 years of on/off use--cost me $125 to get it rewound right (the USA way).

I highly recommend them.  :)

I have there 24 drum sander, 20" planer, and 20 knife grinder, and dust collector.  Have had pretty good luck with them.  The 24" drum sander is OK dont really care about how to put the sand paper on it and once it one there and you use it the paper tends to heat up then loosen.  All in in all I have been happy with them.

I have an 8" jointer that is really nice and their small sharpener/grinder that works well as long as you don't let the knives stay on the wheel too long.  It doesn't use cooling water so will burn if your not carefull.

edsaws

I've got the 6" jointer, 10" contracter type saw, 2hp dust colletor. Quality is ok, the table saw needed some help in the fitment department as in lining up the table extensions. The fence needed to be ground down by the locking mechanism so it would be below the table and not rub up against the board your triing to rip. When I called to complain they told me to modify it or send it back. Well I modified it cause at the time I had a job that couldn't wait. So for all my trouble you'd think they would've gave me a price break or somthing well I got the somthing a Grizzley hat  8)
But the prices are good and I'll buy from them again.

I have their 8" jointer, 10" contractor table saw, and 16" bandsaw.  They've all worked well for me, I've had them for about five years.  Customer service and technical support is top notch  ;)

My Father-In-Law bought me the 12" Spiral Head Jointer about three weeks ago.  I am waiting for the third thermal overload for the motor.  >:(  The first one must have been bad from the start.  The second one failed after running about 150 1 x 6 pine boards across it.  Their Customer service department is doing everything they can to keep me satisfied.  They are sending  the part to me second day delivery, and they are willing to spend as much time answering all my questions.  The quality of the jointer is very good, I just worry about the electrical components.  I am not pushing  the motor that hard, but maybe I am expecting to much?  Overall I would buy from them again as there support is top notch.

Hey DeepWoods, does your father-in-law need anymore son-in-laws?

I have the 3 hp cabinet saw,the 8 in jointer. and the bigger oscillating spindle sander.I had to do a little filing on the bolt holes for the top to get the top to square up with the blade on the saw.. :(
The two other machines worked perfect out of the box. 8) For the price I think they are good machines.

Also I forgot, I have the 2hp dust collector that I use for my WM sawmill. I only use the blower part similar to the way Bibbyman uses his blower. It keeps up with my WM super except when the intake screen gets stopped up.

I have the 8" jointer, 10" 3hp table saw, 3hp shaper, 13" planer molder, 24" drum sander 19" band saw and a ceiling mounted dust filter system that was a scrach and dent. All work very well for the money. My home made dust collector uses Grizzley filter bags.
The 24" drum sander I have seen alot negative opinions about and they aren't ( lets just say a bull in a china shop ) but if you take time they will give you a very smooth surface that will take very little hand sanding.

Someone mentioned about the sand paper becoming lose on there drum sander, make sure your paper hasn't streched and the spring tensioner is out of stroke or about out of stroke.

Not using any Grizz tools, but I'd really have to think hard and run out of options before I'd buy any of 'em.  All of my machinery is American made - either U.S. made Delta, Woodmaster, or vintage machines from the 1930's and 1940's.

Nothing against the Asian imports in general, but sometimes quality control leaves a LOT to be desired.

I've had the 40" lathe and copy attachment for about a year now.  It is an excellent machine.  Everything else in my shop is American made, but I think I'll have to look at Grizzly next time.  Deep woods, no need for my son - in -laws to hear about your father-in-law, I think.  ;D

I put the third thermal protector in the Grizzly Jointer over the weekend.  So far I have not had any more problems.  But I haven't pushed a heavy load on it yet so only time will tell.  The more I use it the more I have my FIL to thank.  It sure beats the pants off the 6" Sears that it replaced.

LSUNo1,   I have been asked that many times as my wife and I are the lucky recipients of several of his gifts.  He is 93, and plans on dying broke.  His wife is 97, and they just celebrated their 69th wedding aniversary on Christmas day.
