I have some one at work interested in buying about 30 bdft of Maple that I have. It's air dried and he doesn't have a planer so he wants me to dress it to size just like he'd buy it from  box store. So what would AD 1x6 Maple be worth? It's all clear without a single knot in the stuff that I am selling to him.

Thanks, Jim

It is up to you , but if I had cut and finished this lumber I would sell it for no less than  $1 a bdft.
You aint gonna find clear maple for that price at lowes. :)

Just sold a few hundred feet of hard maple to a guy for personal use that works for a cabinet shop. It was rough air dried and  less than FAS. He paid $2.00 and said it was cheaper than he could get it any where else.

THat makes me think that at 3.00 /bd ft planed and sized , I'm giving this guy a bargain.

I try to get at least $2 per for nice well cut and dried hardwood.  Maple is the only wood that has been going up lately so for nice clears I would probably try for $3.  Maybe you could offer him the stuff olaned and square edged for 3 or even a little more, it is at least $5.65 in the stores here.  Do you plan on any discussion with him about how to handle air dried wood?

He's using it to trim a house that he's selling...  I told him that if he needs it to maintain dimensions exactly that he should allow it about a couple of weeks to acclimate to the conditions. He said its not extremely important in the applications he's using it for. So basically he saw it and thought it was pretty and just said he'd take some.

Jim,
I sell my kiln dried hard maple for $3.75 a bdft, soft maple for $2.25 a bdft. I sell air dried at 33% less than kiln dried price. I charge $.35 per bdft to plane s2s, s4s would be more.

Here in Roch.,  prices are higher, but I use Dansville Dimension as my price benchmark.

I would charge at least $3 a board foot, especially for a small hand crafted order. Here, lousy oak at The Home Depot costs roughly $6 a foot.

Buzz-sawyer

Is it hard or soft (silver) maple?
Big difference, between the 2 here...soft is sold for pallets at 30 cents a foot.
Not a lot of call for it for other uses.

In St. Louis my friend can get up to $4.00 bd ft. for FAS hard maple that has no heart wood. I cut some lower grade hard maple recently that is in the kiln now. I think I will be lucky to get $2.00 bd. ft. One thing that will really effect the price is sticker stain.

we can easily get $3.25 a bdf here for hard maple. And we can get $4.00 to $5.00 a bdf for AMBROSIA maple.

Are these $4-5 dollar prices on hard maple finished on four sides? Rough sawn, air dried, or good on 4 sides kiln dried?
