Here is the setup.

Problem I'm having is it doesn't lock into position. Most of them I have seen seem to cantilever over. Not sure what I'm doing wrong

One thing I would do is to replace that round rod with a turnbuckle. The turnbuckle would give you needed adjustment.  Your rod needs to go past center of the bolt on the left of the picture to lock.

You need a hole for your rod somewhere where I put the new hole.

is this the "clutch" for the machine or just to hold tension while you tighten up the bolts?

i see what your trying to do. you need the pivot for the pull handle above the centerline of the pull angle so the pivot can cam over i wish i could draw on here! can i get a pencil button in my tool bar administrator?

try clamping your pivot on top of the angle. maybe you will get a better visual when its up there. your linkage will have to be offset of the lever to it can swing by the pivot

Flip the blue lever arm over so the hole for the rod is on the bottom.  Now, the rod will need a 90° bend in it.  Imagine the rod having an extension going straight down from where you have it inserted into the blue arm.  With the arm up, the tension is released.  Push the arm down and when it goes past the pivot point (the bolt), it will stay down on its own.

P.S. - this whole thread should be in your main build thread.  I pity the poor soul that tries to follow your build thread in the future!

Move the pivot point to above the line of pull so when you pull the lever the rod to the engine plate will drop below the line of pull. This will lock the engine in the engaged position.

smiley_clapping smiley_clapping you should be good to go.

If you put a strong spring on the end of the turnbuckle it will help keep the belt tight and make for easy handle snapover.

I don't have a main build thread.
My bad.  There are SOOOO many new band mill builds going on right now, I'm getting them confused.

either end of the turnbuckle.
I think if I put a spring on the turnbuckle it will just raise the lever back up. It never does lock.

Just put a bend in the rod above the arm mounting bolt so it will lock over center before bottoming out.  an adjustment for belt stretch is a good idea also. :)

If it is not locking then you need to move the pivot point higher.

pinefeller

nailed it! with the turnbuckle he should be alright just stretching the belt and its infinitely adjustable.

I'm going to pick up a actual adjustable turnbuckle tomorrow when go to town. Any certain type I should look for?
