what bearing grease to pack cast wheels in kiln?
« on: December 19, 2018, 12:57:11 PM »
I have Nyle's cast iron wheels for the kiln carts. Any recommendations on a type grease to use? Does it matter? I assume the one requirement is being able to withstand temp when heat treating.

The best grease for high temperature operations is intended to be used for disk brake hubs  They get very hot and there are greases designed for that environment.  I got tubes at the local Autozone, but I dont remember the type.

don't know of any OtS grease that can withstand metallurgic heat treating. those temps are around 1400-1800F. but for use in the kiln, high temp red wheel bearing grease, sold at auto zone oriley's, tractor supply and so forth. mobile 28, royco 22cf, thixo #2 or #2 synthetic would work too, which work in temp ranges of around 250-300 for extended periods of time.
