Holzfforma is selling these now for around $60 bucks. The good news is they are based on a good design. Also they do BOTH case assembly, squeezing cases together; AND Case splitting. Two in one concept. Also one tool covers several different kit saws....so bang per buck is they are tough to beat. And they do work. Bad news? They are "Ok" in quality. Good enough to do the job but certainly not pretty.

Following is a discussion those Stihl Pattern tools verses tools that thread onto the crank instead of the cases, the Husqvarna shop tool model vs. Stihl concepts. ALSO Tried the concept of using Husqvarna Shop Tools, Case "fitting" tools on the Stihls for the flywheel side. Use the Husqvarna tools with m10x1 and m8x1 on the Stihl's with that thread on the flywheel side. CONCEPT being for around $100 buck, maybe $150 cover MANY different kit saws with the combinations of the Stihl "Copy" puller/splitter for the PTO side and genuine Husqvarna Case Fitting tools for the flywheel side..:) Take a look.

AND To complete the circle, not only does the Shop Tools in the "Stihl" pattern work for the Stihl bases kits, they also work on Husqvarna's...here is a very sick Husqvarna 372 X-Torq, and I use the Holzfforma shop tool to split the cases...because they will.

Another concept to consider...material quality. The OEM Husqvarna and Stihl ( AND HTSS BTW ) Shop tools have the threads on those jacks designed with enough hardness and the finer "pitch" to last a long time. Many saws. Because the "Copies" also have the same threads, they too will last long enough for most hobby types and shops that occasionally stick a saw together. Have to consider that when purchasing any shop tool....look at the threads if they are jacks. A pro shop should always pick the OEM versions of the Stihl pattern tools. OEM Husqvarna tools are not very expensive and will pull a LOT of cranks over many years. Same with the ones I build as I use a fine thread as well.

Last but not least, on the cases that come from either the OEM shops or AM suppliers, many have seals installed. Being able to turn the crank as it goes through those seals allows that operation to be successful without having to pull and replace seals, yet another cost saving. Both the HTSS tools and the Stihl Shop tools facilitate that, the Husqvarna shop tools don't but you can "work around" that.
