Hi, new member here but have used the forum many times over the years. I have a 1960's Garrett 15 Skidder that just blew out one of the Rockwell axle seals and I have removed the seal. I have a clear part number but I can't seem to locate a replacement thru Rockwell, Meritor, Axle Tech or any seal interchange charts. My axles don't have model ID tags but from research might be PR 50. Wondered if anyone has changed these seals and has a new part number or a parts manual for a 15. The seal ID is 5.93" and has a 10 bolt flange on 8.25" centers.
A few years ago I got info on this site to contact Adam Garrett in Enumclaw, WA who was managing his grandfathers remaining inventory. I was able to reach him once 2 years ago by email about parts and manuals but not able contact since. Thanks for any help

No numbers sorry. How about a bearing shop? Should work off sizes to fix you up. What is the number you have? What are the sizes? I have some cross over seal books.

I changed one recantly on my c4b and I got it from Harold's logging in Maine.

The number stamped on the seal is A-1805-H-528 but this number doesn't show up in any interchange charts. It does appear to be a Rockwell-Standard part number. There are hundreds of seals starting with A-1805 in different mfg lists but not my number. I have tried two bearing houses in Tacoma, WA but they can't cross the number and don't show a flanged seal with a 5.93" ID. Axle Tech (Rockwell/Meritor) in Monroe, Wa are doing a nation wide locate for the seal and have shared my photos and dimensions with their product engineers. Thanks for the replies and help. I will try to research that contact in Maine.

Hang on there Highhood. I would think more help is coming. Some members only come on once a week.

I found this on e-bay. Don't know if it's the same.

Read rules. Ebay links not allowed. Admin

Brian, that seal is similar however mine has 10 — 1/2" diameter bolt holes on a 8.25" bolt center. I did check eBay earlier this week but thank you for checking. I think the post by one member suggesting looking at old seal catalogs might be a way to find a substitution. Thanks all

8)Wow holy crap, just got off the phone with Harold at Harold's Logging Supplies in Maine and he has the seals on the shelf for $39.99 ea. Apparently they also fit a 205 and 207 Timberjack. He is shipping me four next week and said if they aren't right he will take them back. From all of my measurements, it appears they are exact replacements but don't have part numbers. This guy is pretty sharp as I told him the seal had 10 bolt holes and he told me to go recount them should have 12 and sure enough they do. Thanks logman81 for the tip to call Harold and all others who jumped into help.

40 each for a seal that size and what you need sounds cheap.

Them guys from Maine are pretty smart.  ;D

Gary Davis

welcome to the forum I hope you like your 15 as much as I like mine

Gary, I have owned it for five years and it has been great. I bought it from a neighbor who had it 30 yrs and didn't get used unless I borrowed it. When I got it, previous owners had never done any maintenance. It had a couple stuck valves in head from rain in rotten exhaust, carburetor full of water and dirt, no oil in transfer case needed all new bearings and seals (fun job to remove), rebuilt winch brake and clutch bands, winch hydraulic control and slave cylinders, last week I was reworking the pto, pto chain adjuster and new winch chain because chain is badly worn and jumping sprockets and then I toticed one of my hub seals let loose and dumped planetary 90w on shop floor. Anyway it has been fun project but I got it cheap so I figure it is worth putting bucks into. I also replaced the generator with alternator and reworked most of hydraulic hoses and last year had to rebuild the steer cylinder. It starts and purrs like a kitten but wish it had a Detroit instead of the 172 Ford. I will post a pic of it if I can figure out how to do that.

When you get your new seals please put the make and number here for others.

Highhood

Tacks y, I too was amazed at the low price of the seals— kinda expected them to be over $100 ea instead of $40 but yes I will post any new part numbers when they arrive next week. Thanks

Got to love the power of the internet, well at least sometimes.
Glad it worked as quick as it did, could have been a long drawn out process the way we used to look for parts.

Harold's is great I usually get parts for the c4 there convenient cause I work in Bangor. I got 2 wheels this summer from Davco in farmington only cause Harold's had 1. I think they were $45 there but both guys are great to deal with

TacksY, I got my new hub seals from Harold's today drop shipped directly from After Market Parts and they appear to be exact replacements with a double V sealing lip. There are no stamped part numbers except Aftermarket Parts Inc number 400527 on packaging label. Big seal for $40.

Those are the right ones I have the same axles in my c4b and super easy to change out, use rtv when you put it back together to help seal it up. Also make sure you dont have a groove worn in the inside of the hub where the seal rides on.

Good to know about those seals. My hub had deep grooves I filled and machined down with jbweld.

Nice job on fixing the grooves. I really lucked out yesterday somebody had SKF 5.93" speedi sleeve on eBay for $45. Usually $130 to $180.

tantoy

Post the part number for that speedy sleeve please!
