Took down a couple maples that were hanging out into the yard.  Could that be tiger maple I will get from the log?

Looks like tiger maple.  And a lot of stress.

Strip off some of the bark, you will see wavy wood under the cambium if it is curly maple.
Once you get sap in your veins, you will always have sawdust in your pockets.

Did some maintenance on the mill and was about to start on some oak but decided to do the maple.  Do not know what I will do with it so milled 10/4 slabs.  Why 10/4, could not lift 12/4!  Butt log has tiger.  Is the second called spaulted?  Crotch is beautiful but forgot to take pic.

You bet, anytime you see a butt like that, find the log it was connected to and buy it! ;D

YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust
