Bundling Wood Shingles
« on: August 09, 2019, 08:44:35 AM »
After almost a year I have my old Perkins Shingle mill up and running and I have a good supply of cedar logs to cut into shingles. The only problem I am left with is how to bundle the shingles after I have cut them for storage until I am ready to use them. I am planning on using wood shingles on a couple of small out buildings that will be build this fall/winter. I would like to bundle the shingles and some how band them together to prevent them from cupping until I am ready to use them. What would be my best way to do this?

Somewhere I have seen a wooden form with a lever and press plate on top. It had slots to get tie wire around the pack.

A YouTube video titled American shingle company Warrenton, OR shows one way of bundling them at about 6:30 in the vid. I have seen a wooden frame of a box set flat on a low bench used the same way. The two guides in the middle let you place your one strap in the right place. Some one here on the forum also had a video showing his shingle mill and he bundled them like that.

I never did say goodby to my invisible friend.
