New/Old saw 272xp
« on: December 02, 2019, 05:21:25 AM »
Picked this up today also a ms 170 the guy couldn't get to work
Chain was so tight it wouldn't turn /no fuel in tank and the new plug he bought was loose in the hole.
So some fuel / chain backed off and plug wound in ...went 1st pull $50
Any thoughts on how I can improve the 272 which runs ok but has seen a lot of work I think.{ bought off a different guy to the 170}
It appears to be stock standard

Cheers

I'd replace the crankshaft seals, they are known for wearing out, and I would take a look at the vibration dampers and the fuel line too.

I have a 61 husqvarna that will someday have a 272xp piston and cylinder when it wears out. Lots of aftermarket parts available for them priced reasonably.
Husqvarna 550xp , 2- 372xp and a 288xp, Chevy 4x4 winch truck

I love 272's! I've built quite a few. If it's stock like you said and you are thinking about a new top end, try a base gasket delete and a muffler mod. The ones that I have only done this to without porting have responded pretty well.
